Welcome to the website of Newton le Willows National Team

The fishing match squad was formed over 20years ago of club members to compete in the National Federation of Anglers Open match series, and is made up of match anglers from the North West who have come together to learn from each other, improve, enjoy themselves, and compete at the highest level.

This website is designed to enable squad members to exchange information, check on dates and commitments, and communicate with each other. Non-members are more than welcome to visit the site. The team is captained by Mark Brown who fishes on the open match circuit ,in 2007 Mark won the Harrys Tackle Spring League Series on the St Helens Sankey Canal ,and also was the winner of the K and L Electrics Summer Match Series on the StHelens Sankey Canal at Newton le Willows.

This years venue of the Pentax Division 1 National - is on the River Huntspill and King’s Sedgemoor Drain. Date is Saturday September 6th.

 

River Huntspill

The Huntspill is a man-made drainage channel,excavated in the 1940's and connected to the River Brue and South Drain via The Cripps River.The North Drain was dug in c1770 to drain low lying moors to the north of the River Brue.As well as being an important coarse fishery the Huntspill is also an important match fishing venue.Both venues hold many species including immense shoals of bream and large pike.
Control is mainly held by Bridgewater Angling Association.

The Kings Sedgemoor Drain

The KSD is an artificial drainage channel dug in c1790. As well as draining a large area of moor it also carries the diverted water of the River Cary and excess flood flows from the River Parrett.The KSD is a very well known coarse fishery,fish present include roach,rudd,tench,carp bream and pike.
Controlled by various clubs along it's coarse.
